Finally! – Lou Gramm and Foreigner are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame / Class of 2024

After a five-decade wait, Lou Gramm and Foreigner were officially ‘nominated’ for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame / Class of 2024. The announcement was made in early February 2024 after MANY years of eligibility. Once Gramm partnered with band co-founder Mick Jones in the mid-1970s (who co-authored numerous songs with Gramm), each single they released in the ‘70s seemed predestined to systematically work its way into BILLBOARD’s Top 20. But wait, as much of an honor it is to be ‘nominated,’ all the bands and artists nominated in February would have to wait until the end of April 2024 to see if they made the final cut and would be ‘inducted’ into the HOF / Class of 2024.

Leading up to the night of the announcement, there was a groundswell of support from fans and music professionals encouraging the HOF to finally swing the doors open for Foreigner. The official announcement was made live on ‘American Idol’ on Sunday April 21. Foreigner, featuring the six original members, was in (and, yes, Gramm was watching from home and was both relieved and energized). Although the fan votes technically carried less weight than the official HOF judges, the fact that Foreigner was one of the top vote getters helped stamp their ticket to the fall ceremony (at least seven other ‘nominees’ will have to continue waiting.) As for the actual ceremony, it’s alternated between New York City and Cleveland for a number of years. For 2024, it returns to the rock hall’s official home in Cleveland on October 19. As proud as Gramm is for being inducted into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame over a decade ago in 2013, he recently said that he feels the Rock HOF is “the ultimate reward” as he officially joins peers – both present and past.

As for Rochester area fans, they have several choices on how to participate: watch it the night of October 19 on Disney +, wait for an ABC broadcast at a later date or – since Cleveland is about a three-hour drive west – check the car tires, clean the windows and head to Ohio and become a part of the event ‘live and in person!’
